We stock and install Lennox mini-split systems throughout Pasadena, with most complete installations running $3,500 – $7,500 depending on the number of zones and the size of the outdoor condenser. If your existing Lennox unit has a failed compressor, a leaking coil, or a control board that’s gone dark, we can typically get a technician to your door the same day or next morning. The installation itself usually takes one full day for a single-zone system, two days when we’re running multiple line sets through an older Pasadena home.
Most Pasadena owners discover their mini-split installation has failed through one of three routes: the unit runs but won’t cool, it trips the breaker every time the compressor kicks on, or it’s developed a refrigerant leak that leaves the indoor coil frozen over. In Bungalow Heaven and the Craftsman neighborhoods north of the 210, we see a lot of older Lennox units that were installed when the home was remodeled, and the line sets were run through cramped crawl spaces where vibration eventually wears through the copper. That’s a repair, not a replacement, about half the time.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox mini-splits fall into a few distinct families, and the installation parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The current lineup is the MLA and MPB series (single-zone and multi-zone), the MS8 and MS7 series for higher-SEER output, and the VEP/VMP variable-capacity units that Lennox has pushed hard in California over the last five years due to Title 24 efficiency standards. We also still service the older M30 and M22 series that show up in Pasadena homes built or renovated between roughly 2008 and 2016.
The critical thing to check before ordering any part is the model plate on the outdoor condenser, not the indoor air handler. Lennox stamps the full model and serial number on a plate riveted to the side of the outdoor unit. The first three digits tell you the family (MLA, MPB, MS8, etc.), and that determines which control board, which blower motor, and which flare fittings you need. We’re an independent service provider, not a Lennox dealer, but we carry OEM Lennox parts for the common failure points and quality aftermarket equivalents where they match or exceed the original spec. For control boards specifically, we recommend OEM. Aftermarket boards for Lennox mini-splits have a higher failure rate out of the box than we’re willing to put our name on.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Lennox Mini-Split Installation Is Failing
- Unit runs but won’t cool, and the line set is iced over. This is almost always a refrigerant leak, and on Lennox units we usually find it at the flare connections where the copper line meets the indoor head. The flare nuts work loose over years of thermal expansion and contraction, which Pasadena’s hot afternoons and cool nights accelerate.
- Breaker trips when the compressor starts. The compressor is pulling locked-rotor amps, which means it’s failing internally. On Lennox units older than 10 years, this is usually the end of the line for the compressor, and you’re looking at a new outdoor unit or a full replacement rather than a part swap.
- Indoor head makes a clicking sound and the louver won’t move. The stepper motor that drives the louver has stripped. This is a small part, under $100 on most Lennox models, but it requires opening the indoor head and re-seating the motor, which is fiddly work.
- Condensate dripping from the indoor unit onto your floor. The drain pan has cracked or the drain line is plugged with the kind of dust and pollen film that Pasadena’s oak trees and dry air produce in volume. A plugged line is a quick fix; a cracked pan on an older Lennox usually means replacing the entire indoor head.
- Remote won’t communicate with the unit, but the display lights work. The IR receiver board in the indoor head has failed. It’s a $60 – $120 part on most Lennox models, and we keep the common ones on the truck because it’s a 30-minute swap.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Pasadena homeowners, a full Lennox-compatible mini-split installation runs $3,500 – $7,500. The spread comes down to three things: how many zones you’re installing, the BTU capacity (a 9,000 BTU single-zone for a bedroom costs far less than a 36,000 BTU multi-zone that feeds three rooms), and how difficult the line set run is. Older Pasadena homes with lath-and-plaster walls and tight crawl spaces take longer, and that labor shows up in the quote.
Every installation we quote includes the outdoor condenser, the indoor head(s), the line set, the condensate drain, the electrical disconnect, the pad for the outdoor unit, and the full labor. The price Marco Benitez gives you is the price. Written, before any work starts, with no revision at the invoice stage. The installation itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something’s not right, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s a full year, not a 30-day window.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely clean the air filter on your indoor head, clear obvious debris off the outdoor condenser coil, and check that the breaker hasn’t tripped. That’s where DIY stops. Mini-split installation involves refrigerant under high pressure and 240-volt electrical connections. Getting either one wrong means a burned-out compressor, a refrigerant burn, or a fire inside your wall cavity. We’ve repaired enough DIY mini-split installations in Pasadena to tell you plainly: the most expensive install we do is the one where the homeowner tried it first.
If your Lennox unit has failed and you want an honest diagnosis before you spend a dollar on parts, call us at (626) 657-5344. We’ll tell you what failed, what it costs to fix, and whether replacement makes more sense. No charge for the estimate.
FAQs
A properly installed Lennox mini-split system in Pasadena typically lasts 12 – 15 years before the compressor or coil reaches the end of its service life. The climate here shortens the lifespan compared to cooler regions because the outdoor unit works hard through long summer runs, and the dry air plus oak pollen loads up the coil with fine debris that holds heat against the condenser fins. Units we install get a full year of coverage under our Done Right Promise, and the manufacturer’s compressor warranty typically runs 5 – 10 years depending on the model. Call (626) 657-5344 and we’ll check your exact serial number against Lennox’s warranty database.
Yes, most failures are repair candidates, not replacement candidates. Control boards, stepper motors, receiver boards, capacitors, flare leak repairs, and drain line clearing are all repairable in place, usually in under two hours. The two situations where replacement usually wins: a compressor failure on a unit over 10 years old, or a refrigerant leak inside the indoor coil, where the replacement coil plus labor approaches 60 – 70% of a new system. We’ll show you the repair price and the replacement price side by side and let you decide.
A single-zone installation in Pasadena takes one full working day from start to finish. A multi-zone system with two or three indoor heads typically takes two days because each line set has to be run, flared, pressure-tested, vacuumed, and charged correctly. We don’t rush the vacuum step. Skipping a proper evacuation is the fastest way to kill a new compressor, and we won’t do it.
Yes. Our Pasadena trucks carry the Lennox control boards, stepper motors, receiver boards, capacitors, flare fittings, and line-set components that fail most often. For less common parts, we order OEM directly and usually have the part in hand within two business days. We also stock select parts for Carrier and Trane mini-split systems for the mixed-brand homes we see across Pasadena. Call (626) 657-5344 with your model number and we’ll tell you if we have the part in the truck before we even schedule the visit.
